Hi! My name is Shannon. I grew up in a household that didn't kill bugs; instead, we set them free outside. My parents taught me values of mindfulness and respect for life. This, however, did not extend to the dinner table until recently. I grew up eating animals and using animal products. I am now a 30-something lawyer, living in Denver with my husband, Ty, and dog, Sprout. I have been a vegetarian since I was 22 and a vegan for the past few years. I have worked in environmental and animal law and have been amazed at the various ways in which the law protects -- and doesn't protect -- non-human animals. I started this blog to share what I have learned. Here, I delve into connection, place, environmental sustainability. Along my journey, I have cultivated ways we can stop the exploitation of animals for our pleasure and want to share. Friends and family have asked me questions, shared their frustrations, and even discouraged my shift. As with any practice, sometimes a change can be scary and triggering for others. I have thought, questioned, put my practices to logical and moral tests, and have had discussions with them. My hope is that this blog serves as a guide, as a space to ask questions (I have so many myself), and a forum to share struggles. I welcome you, wherever you are, on this journey with me!
